Kairos Jeunesse (KJ) is the Youth Co-ordination division of KAIROS EUROPA which initiated a process of linking various community-based groups in order to create an open and just European society: "Towards a Europe for Justice - a non Fortress Europe". KJ is a non-governmental European coalition of youth groups and organisations registered as an ASBL under the Belgium law, with an open membership policy that enables groups, organisations as well as individuals to participate in the conceptualisation, planning and the implementation of it's activities. Kairos Jeunesse perceives the process of European integration as an open invitation to contribute in creating outward-looking multicultural societies that accept and respect cultural and religious differences; a Europe free of racism and xenophobia. It has taken a series of activities, offering a forum for groups working with young migrants and minorities. KJ offers a dynamic framework for exchanging experiences and skills, for cultural statement and interaction. Furthermore, it encourages young people to take part in the process of change, challenging the social and political deficits of European unification and enlargement.
On the field, Kairos Jeunesse has strived to promote exchanges and contacts between community-based groups across cultural and national boundaries. At the same time, KJ tried to limit the financial imposition on participant groups' local resources. For many community-based groups international work is an additional financial burden which could derail the local process if not carefully organised. The European secretariat of KJ is managed by a Co-ordinator working in a Brussels located office. The office maintains close contact with 6 volunteers from Serbia, Bosnia, England and Hungary - the Core Group - which constitutes the managemental and legislative unit, supporting and overseeing the activities. |
